Ester StÅlberg
Ester Stålberg is a Swedish violinist, particularly dedicated to contemporary music and improvisation. She regularly commissions and premieres works, both solo and for her ensembles.
Forthcoming projects include a side by side concert with the Riot ensemble, a performance of the Brahms violin concerto with Nyko Sinfonietta in Uppsala, Sweden, and a concert in the Purcell Room as a Southbank Future artist, mentored by Sean Shibe.
Her latest performances include recitals at Charlton House and Regent Hall with her duo partner Christopher Kang, a side by side concert with the Chroma ensemble, and multiple self organised concerts with live improvisation, contemporary violin works, and commissions by composers such as Archie John and Ashkan Layegh.
Ester has attended prestigious festivals such as the Darmstadt Summer Course for contemporary music, working together with composers Rebecca Saunders and Cassandra Miller, and taking lessons with Sarah Saviet and Quatuor Bozzini. Other festivals include the French Connection Academy, Voksenåsen Academy and O/Modernt New Generation Symphony Orchestra, in which she held the position of concert master.
She often performs in masterclasses in the UK and Scandinavia, for instance with improviser Jean-Baptiste Doulcet, with distinguished violinists Priya Mitchell, Malin Broman, Peter Herresthal and Henning Kraggerud, and chamber ensembles Danish String Quartet and the Chilingirian String Quartet. During her time in Stockholm, she studied with violinist Nina Balabina.
Her performances with the chamber ensemble O/Modernt, artists in residence at Wigmore Hall, have taken her to prestigious venues across Europe, including Konzerthaus Berlin, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Queen Silvia Concert Hall, Arvo Pärt Centre and Stockholm Berwald Hall.
Ester is currently a student at the Royal Academy of Music, London, studying with renowned violinist Sini Simonen and previously Levon Chilingirian. Her studies are supported by the Calleva Scholarship, and through numerous other awards, including scholarships from the Albert Cooper Charitable Trust, the Anders Sandrews Foundation, Musicians Friends in Uppsala, the Welin fund, and the Swedish Church in London.
